I’m not afraid to admit, we are having a tough time financially at the moment. The delay on my statutory sick pay doesn’t help, neither does the meager amount. And as I said in my post on new years resolutions, we are trying to be more frugal as a family anyway. So we decided that we weren’t going to make a big deal of Valentines Day this year.
Bunny made us a Card…
“To mummy and daddy, Happy Valentines Day. I love mummy and daddy. Mummy is byootfooll and daddy is hanssmm. I love Graney and Grandad and I love Tiny* and Fluffy* and my holl faamley”
Bless my little princess, she’s such a sweetie.
So that was cards taken care of, but I wanted to give hubs something. So Bunny and I made some chocolate heart cakes…
To make these yourself (Ideal for Mothers day or Easter perhaps?)…
1. Simply make a basic chocolate sponge in two tins.
2. Take a heart shaped cookie cutter and cut out hearts from the sponge.
3. Slice all the heart cakes in half (horizontally)
4. Make a chocolate buttercream and use this to sandwiich all the halves back together again.
5. Spoon on some red icing and decor of your choice!
2 standard sized sponges made us 20 heart cakes and hubs loved them!
Hubs was at work in the evening so I didn’t get to have a nice dinner with him but I think we are long overdue a date night soon anyway.
So Valentines had cost us virtually nothing and I didn’t mind, because recent events have shown us our love can survive anything. You can only imagine my surprise when hubs came home from work with these…
He’d saved his bus fare to work, to spend on me! Cue one happy wife
