I thought I'd do something a little different this week. Bunny has been singing lots of playground songs at home - you know - the old fashioned clapping rhymes with actions. I thought I'd share one for #WednesdayWords. I think it's one of those songs that shows children trying to be older than they are, but it's also quite funny.

Lemonade Playground song - author unknown

Lemonade
Crunchy ice
Sip it once
Sip it twice
Turn around
Touch the ground
Kick you boyfriend out of town
FREEZE!

The one I remember from my own childhood was this:

Chinese Restaurant Playground Song - Author unknown

"I went to a Chinese restaurant to buy a loaf of bread bread bread
They wrapped it up in a five pound note and this is what they said said said
My name is
Andy Andy
Sugar and candy
Boys in the background drinking Pepsi
Girls are sexy!"

It turns out from Googling this song, that there are many many different versions - a playground song that got changed by Chinese whispers!

There was also one about a girl who got pregnant by a man called Herbert and they called their baby Sherbert and it ended "Then there was Herbert, and Sherbert, and me!" I don't remember the beginning though - Anybody know?

There's another I remember, but it's a bit rude! Maybe I'll share it next week!

Anyway - if you want to join in with #WednesdayWords - Blog a poem / short story / lyric / prose that has inspired you or summed up how are feeling this week. Grab the badge and link up.

Comments welcome from non-bloggers too.

    Oh what great memories.

I can remember tunes but I loved the song below:

Autumn days, when the grass is jewelled
And the silk in a chestnut shell
Jet planes meeting in the air to be refuelled
All these things I love so well
    So I mustn’t forget
    No, I mustn’t forget
To say a great big thank you
    No, I mustn’t forget.

Clouds that look like familiar faces
And winter’s moon with frosted rings
Smell of bacon as I fasten up my laces
And the song the milkman sings.
    So I mustn’t forget
    No, I mustn’t forget
To say a great big thank you
    No, I mustn’t forget.

    Whipped-up spray that is rainbow-scattered
And a swallow curving in the sky
Shoes so comfy though they’re worn out and they’re battered
And the taste of apple pie.
    So I mustn’t forget
    No, I mustn’t forget
To say a great big thank you
    No, I mustn’t forget.

Scent of gardens when the rain’s been falling
And a minnow darting down a stream
Picked-up engine that’s been stuttering and stalling
And a win for my home team.

    So I mustn’t forget
    No, I mustn’t forget
To say a great big thank you
    No, I mustn’t forget.
