After the recent discovery, that my baby’s daddy sperm donor had actually been lying to me, two-timing me, blackmailing me and manipulating me for months (with a complete other relationship on the go in secret), there’s been no doubts for me about my baby’s surname.

There’s absolutely no way, my baby will have his surname, but that still leaves me with three options for what my baby’s surname should be!

What surname should I give my baby?

Do I give the baby my current surname? I’m legally still married, so my surname is my ex’s surname. However, this option would allow me and all four of my children to have the same surname. It would be the easy option.

Do I go back to my maiden name? Should both my baby and I go back to my maiden name? This would mean that my three daughters have a different surname to me and the baby, but it would be my original surname, not one belonging to a man.

Or the final option, is one which I hear is becoming more and more popular… choosing a brand new surname. I think I’d be tempted to go for something posh-sounding, like Ponsenby-Smythe, Rochester, Darlington or maybe even Darcy? Or I could go for a celebrity surname… Tatum? Hardy? DiCaprio? Or maybe a character name… Potter? No wait… I’ve got it… The name’s Bond… Baby Bond!

Hmmm… maybe not!

That is a tough decision! My feeling would be to give him the same surname as your girls, unless you are planning to revert to your maiden name soon, in which case that might be the answer. There’s plenty of families where siblings have different surnames and it’s not a big deal.
I’m sure that whatever you decide, you will be happy with the decision and he will soon grow into his name.

Awe I’ve got images in my head of a baby in a tux now lol.

My wee Agent M has my surname which I love but would feel kinda weird if Agent D and I had a child and they had a different surname from the two of us. Maybe it’s just cause I’m used to having the same name as M.

Would you change all your names to something different? How well do you get on with your ex husband? Would he care if you used his surname? Xx
