When you decided to announce your pregnancy, how did you do it? Did you turn to social media or tell people in person?
When I was pregnant with my first daughter, social media wasn’t as big as it is now. I hadn’t joined Facebook yet and was probably still stuck in the disintegrating world of MSN Messenger! I told everyone my news in person, but once I had joined Facebook, I shared all my baby news on there too.
With my twins, I told my family in person or over the phone first and then did a big announcement on Facebook using two consecutive statuses. The first said, “I’m excited to announce that I’m pregnant…”, the second status said, “…with TWINS!”. The second status got double the response that my first one did and it really made me giggle to see all my friends reactions.
My current pregnancy was in somewhat strained circumstances as I was in a brand new relationship, it was completely unplanned and I’d only just told my family that my husband and I had separated (even though we’d been separated a few months). So this time I didn’t have the courage to tell my family in person, as I didn’t know how they’d react. I’m ashamed to admit I just sent them a very short and very blunt text message, informing them. But my family are my family and they love me and support me no matter what I do. I had no reason to worry. When it came to telling friends, I announced my pregnancy in this blog post, which I then shared via Facebook. And guess what… the majority of my friends were supportive too. Those who weren’t are no longer on my friends list.
In a recent survey commissioned by George at Asda, more than half of those asked, preferred to announce their first pregnancy in person, while a third of 25-34 year olds decided that social media was the perfect way to share the big news. George have created a great piece of content featuring ten familiar Mummy Blogger faces to help celebrate the survey results, so that you can pop over and read their stories too.
How did you announce your pregnancy? I’d love to hear how my readers shared their news… so please do leave me a comment with your story!
