We seem to keep jumping from snow to spring and back to snow again! Not long after my post about playing in the snow during The Beast from the East and Storm Emma, we had the Mini Beast from the East drop another load of snow in Gloucestershire. I’d mentioned on Twitter that I’d never actually taken my children sledging before and instantly felt bad about it. So with the next snowfall (which is our fifth round of snow this winter), I corrected that.

Our first attempt at sledging, was Bunny, testing out if she could sledge on a tea tray – this was something I did with my friends when I was a little girl. It resulted in Bunny having a very cold wet bum, as she slipped off the tray half way down! You can see a short clip of it on my Instagram (I’m on Instagram as @crazywithtwins – come and follow me on there if you aren’t already!).

A good friend of ours (more like family really) has a field with a barn and we love to visit them and spend time there, catching up whilst the children play. So we called in on this snowy day and they just so happened to have an actual sledge. So I took the children sledging PROPERLY down the field. Then we headed into the barn to warm up and dry off by the fire with a cup of tea… and then went back out for more snow fun. We did this for a good few hours, until it was time to head home for dinner. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day for all of us and Bunny got to hang out with our friends son, who is a similar age to her.

Just ONE WEEK after all that snow fun, we have sprung into spring and spent a day playing outdoors. I didn’t even need a coat! We’d gone from minus temperatures to 11 degrees and warm sunshine, in such a short time. My snowy log pile photo on instagram, was followed by bright blue skies and pink blossom trees. There are daffodils at the side of the roads and on roundabouts and the snow is long forgotten.

From snow to spring in just one week. What a dramatic change in weather, but how lovely that we were able to go and spend much of the day outdoors two weekends in a row. We went to an Easter fete, had a mini picnic and went to play in a different park.

I hear we are forecast another wave of snow over Easter, so perhaps daffodils followed by snowy daffodils could be up next on insta?

So far the next round of snow has held off but it is far from warm here today. Like you we made the most of the unusual south west snow. I wish mine had seen it at the age of yours, they broke the sledges as overgrown teenagers, but they had been bought when they were much younger in the hope of snow. Your children are the perfect age and look like they are having such a fun time. Amazing to see sunshine and blossom within the week, I don’t know how nature survives the dramatic changes!

And now it’s all come full circle again! Snow on bank holiday Monday!! Lovely pictures. I love that you tried sledging on a tea tray! Classic! Popping over from #countrykids

Ahaa glad they got to sledge in the end! Back when I was little we’d use compost bags… that must have hurt.. at least a tea tray has some protection before you fall off!

It’s crazy how it’s gone from snow to spring (and back again!) over the last few weeks. Looks like your girls had a wonderful time sledging in the snow. I remember using an old tea tray as a child too – a proper sledge is much better though! #countrykids

We did the exact same thing, in the first snowfall I had to go to a wedding and couldn’t play in it with the children before they were back in school so the second time that it snowed I went to buy sledges and took them sledging just a few minutes away from our house!

Looks like you all had a great time sledging down the hill, the change in weather is causing issues for us though we never know what to wear and are constantly getting colds. #CountryKids
