Would you know what to do if your baby was choking? having a fit? had meningitis? Would you know what to do if your child was drowning? or broke a bone? What would you do in those terrifying moments while you were waiting for an ambulance to arrive? Wouldn’t it be better if you could do something to help?
To encourage more parents to learn First Aid for children and babies, The British Red Cross have introduced their First Aid Challenge.
The First Aid Challenge is split into three parts.
Challenge One – To watch the online videos on Baby and Child First Aid. These are around one minute long each and there are twenty. Each video clip will show you life saving techniques that all parents should know.
Challenge Two – Take a Red Cross Baby and Child First Aid Course. There are lots of them all over the UK. They last 5 hours and only cost £45, but if you register to take the challenge, you can get £5 off!
Challenge Three – Send a letter to your child’s school asking them to teach the children basic first aid. This could teach them vital skills which could help their siblings or friends in a crisis.
It’s my personal opinion that all parents should learn first aid for babies and children. You never know when tragedy may strike and being prepared and knowing what to do, could save a child’s life. So I’m off to do Challenge 1 now whilst the twins nap! Challenge 2 starts tonight for me, as I am doing the evening course, spread over two nights!
Wish me luck, and if you are a parent reading this, please consider taking up the challenge yourself!
Thanks for sharing this. Taking a first aid course is actually one of my resolutions for this year so I will be looking into this with interest.
