If you are anything like me, you will find it almost impossible to get through Christmas day without destroying your kitchen. Destroying in the sense of making a mess, not setting fire to it. Having said that, do be careful when cooking whilst intoxicated. Some of the brandy is meant to actually make it to the top of the Christmas pudding, on the way past your lips!
To me, a big part of the excitement of Christmas is the food and drink. I love to have smoked salmon blinis and champagne for breakfast. Soft drinks and no snacking until lunch. We tend to have our Christmas dinner about 2pm – all 3 courses. And with our Turkey?… Sweet potato mash, cauliflower cheese, broccoli, carrots, honey roasted parsnips, bacon-fried sprouts, Yorkshire puddings, stuffing, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes and of course Gravy (big fan of M&S turkey gravy).
One year I even did a different wine, matched to each course of the meal (thanks to my intermediate wines and spirits qualification I gained at uni)! In the afternoon we snack on crisps, nuts, twiglets, cheeses, pates, crackers and all the chocolate and biscuits that are floating around the house.
The dishwasher (machine not person) gets put through it’s paces repeatedly, and someone will whinge about having to unload and reload it.
Wasted food, is not something we tend to ever have in our house. Both my husband and the twins are human waste disposal systems. If we have a lot of leftovers, we make something nice, like my frugal fried rice recipe or bubble and squeak.
We eat an extreme amount of food on Christmas day and the amount of time spent running back and forth to the kitchen is immense. So I wanted to share with you a really handy interactive Christmas kitchen infographic I found, designed by Bright House.
It has handy tips on everything from how to stack the fridge, or keep on top of the festive jumper washing, to recipes to use up leftover food (if you have any). There are hints for cooking the perfect Turkey (and mince pies) and even TV and Radio playlists, to keep your enthusiasm up, whilst you are preparing those fart balls sprouts!
I can’t show you the full infographic on my blog, as it’s a swish interactive one, so you can see it by clicking here.
