I am so used to buying pink, girly clothes and toys, that shopping for a baby boy is a real novelty. Every now and then I forget. Like at The Baby Show in London the other day, as I was pushing around a gorgeous pink pram, it suddenly dawned on me that I probably shouldn’t choose pink this time! When I started writing this blog, one of my first ever posts (titled “a girly sea of pink“) was about all the pink girly clothes I’d been buying. I’m really enjoying looking at things for boys this time, even though it is very much unchartered territory for me. I don’t have much money at the moment, as I have just had to move house again and I’ve also had to leave my job for personal reasons, but even on a low budget, sometimes I just can’t help myself. I’m only 22 weeks pregnant and have already made quite a few baby boy purchases.
Baby Bear’s wardrobe is mounting up nicely, but so far, I’ve not paid full price for anything. I’ve shopped exclusively in the sales and found some real bargains! I’ve also got an absolutely gorgeous cardigan, hat and blanket which my mum made. Obviously this wasn’t a “purchase” as such, but it’s just so adorable that I had to share it!
I still have a yellow blanket which my late Granny made for me too, so I love that in amongst the new shop bought things, Baby Bear already has some special things to treasure, which were handmade with love.
As Baby Bear is a going to be a summer baby, I’ve been planning ahead and buying things which will keep him cool. Then on not-so-warm days, I can layer him up with his cardi and blankets. I remember when the girls were babies, they ended up living in vests on the hotter days of the summer, so I don’t want to go too overboard on the buying of Newborn size clothes, just in case we do have a hot summer.
These are some of my favourite purchases so far (all sale bargains):
Summer hat from Boots Mini Club
H&M summer romper suit and shorts
I hit up the Next sale quite hard, so these next few items are all from Next:
Nutmeg newborn bundle & this t-shirt which I thought was particularly apt as I call him “Baby Bear”…
I don’t remember where I bought this one, but this was the first thing I ever bought him and I bought it before I even knew for certain that he was a boy. Although I knew in my gut that he was a boy from the very beginning.
I’ve also bought items from F&F, Jojo Maman Bebe, Gap and Peacocks and I’m sure the baby boy purchases will continue to grow at the same rate as my tummy!
So many cute outfits! He’s going to look gorgeous. Love the things your mum knitted. There’s not quite so much selection for boys as there is for girls, but it’s usually possible to find some cute stuff.
