Hello. My name is Emma and I am a kitchen appliance addict!
My house is not tidy enough, to be mistaken with the ideal home show. It IS however, easy to be mistaken for the gadget show. Or at least, you might think the woman who lived here, threw a tantrum in a large appliance store, to which her husband bowed down to, and bought the lot. You would be still be wrong.
There are rather a few appliances in my kitchen, that I have acquired over the last 10 years. Don’t get me wrong, I still have your usual kitchen appliances… standard toaster, standard kettle, microwave, freezer…
No wait… actually I don’t! I have an instant hot water dispenser, instead of a kettle. My toaster also boils/fries eggs. Our freezer is so small, that we no longer buy frozen food, because nothing fits. The fridge makes some quite frankly terrifying noises too! And my microwave? Ah well that blew up last month and the white ball of lightening spinning around inside it, blew a hole through the side and nearly killed me… so we actually don’t have one of those!
I’m like an appliance-whore, except I don’t have the basics! (I don’t even have a decent set of cookware!) I have been thoroughly spoilt by modern technology, yet I haven’t grasped the fundamentals. Perhaps I should pawn it all and get a decent fridge freezer and some saucepans?
I do have…
An OptiGrill
An ActiFry
A Vitamix (although sadly this is only on loan to me)
A steamer
A slow cooker
A Soda Stream
A Steam Generator Iron
A food processor
A toasted sandwich maker
A dishwasher
A washer dryer
An extra (travel) gas hob (you never know when you might need a spare).
A husband
…oh wait – that last one might not actually be an appliance. That one just stands in the doorway moaning at how much mess I have made when cooking!
This blog post is my entry into the Tots100/PartSelect ’Love Your Appliance’ competition.
Hi Emma! I am excited that I found your blog! I am also 27. I am a mother of 2 (an almost 3 year old little boy and a 1 year old little girl). I was diagnosed with Thyroid cancer in August. I, too, have TONS of appliances, but not the same kind as you! I LOVE LOVE LOVE cooking and baking from scratch. So, I have appliances that help me do that instead! Can’t wait to read more from you!

Emma, I have a lot of appliances at home as well, and most of them can be found in my kitchen. Yeah. It is MY kitchen because I am the only one allowed to use those appliances. My boys cannot touch them because simple, I just don’t want. How horrible I am. But they still think I am a good wife and mom, so I don’t think that’s really a big deal.
I am sure there are many kitchen appliances fiend like you and I am one of them. These appliances are meant to make life easy for all of us, so we do need them. But then, we will have to make sure whether we actually need them or just buying them out of impulse!
