Dear Kerry,
You are my oldest and dearest friend. I can’t imagine my life without you. I think of you as a sister to me and of your mum as a second mum. Always have, always will.
We grew up together. We held hands through playschool. We got in trouble together through primary school. We even got banned from seeing each other for a week once… And it was the longest week ever.
We went to different high schools but we were never far apart. I could get from my house to yours in fifteen seconds.
We went on unforgettable holidays together. Florida, Menorca, Tenerife. We have memories to last a lifetime.
You were there for me as I went through chemo. When I lost all my hair, I was still the same Emma to you. You didn’t give me special treatment or look at me differently… I was still just your best friend. And that’s what I needed.
We were there for each other through first dates, first kisses, first loves and losing our virginity. We told each other everything. We were inseparable for much of our childhood. My house was yours and your house was mine. We never needed to knock.
In adult life, we aren’t blessed to live near each other or see each other as often as we would like. But we always have each others backs. We always write long messages in birthday cards to try and make each other cry. We were at each others weddings (and you forgave me for being late to yours). You are godmother to my children and they love you like a second mum.
You have been a positive influence on me all my life. You have held my hand through thick and thin, whether near or far. And I know no matter what… You’re only a phone call away. You always make me laugh. You are the most amazing friend and I wanted the chance to tell you how much you mean to me.
When I found out that I was going to be having this baby alone, there was only one person I thought of, that I want to be there to hold my hand. And I am over the moon that you said yes to being my birth partner. I know I don’t need to feel frightened or alone anymore, because you will be there. The person I trust with my life. You’ll be the first person besides me, to hold my baby. I am so lucky to have you as my friend. Thank you for saying yes. Thank you for always being you.
You are one of the most important people in my life. You are my family. You are irreplaceable.
(And you are probably crying now!)
She will definitely be crying, because I’m crying!
What a lovely post about a lovely friend. I’m so glad she is going to be your birth partner.
