I was recently asked to create a mood board for living room/dining room inspiration. My current living room has a grey and orange theme and I really like it. However, having only just moved into my current house, it currently looks very basic and I still have a lot of unpacking and decorating to do. I hope to expand on my grey and orange theme soon with more cushions, a rug, lamp, shelving, wall mural and some coordinating crockery. So I thought why not create my mood board, with the same colour scheme that I have now, but incorporating the items I’d choose if I were starting again from scratch.
So here’s a little mood board I quickly threw together to start getting the inspiration flowing for my future purchases.
I LOVE my corner sofa, and as the sofa is usually the largest item of furniture in a living room, I started with this corner sofa from Fishpools and based the rest of the mood board around that.
Other items I chose were:
Round orange “Louie” table lamp from Habitat, Hunkydory cushion from Not On The High Street, grey striped rug from Wayfair, grey shelving unit from Ikea, animal print curtains from Dunelm and a dining table and chairs from The Cotswold Company.
I like how the colours match and the shapes contrast. I think I’ve managed to combine quite a eclectic mix of designs, which would work well together in a modern family home. Making this mood board has given me lots of ideas now for how to progress with my own living room project. I think I might have to head over to Pinterest for more ideas and prioritise my purchases. Sadly there are still essential items I need to buy for my new home, before I can get onto the fun part of choosing furnishings.
