Bunny, despite only being 5 years old, always surprises us with her generosity. She has no idea of the value of money, but whenever we say we can’t afford to go out for dinner, or we can’t afford a holiday, she tells us, “It’s okay mummy, I can pay for you with my money, because I’ve got lots of money!”
This is how much Bunny considers to be a LOT of money…
Bless my gorgeous little girl for having such a considerate nature. She often thinks of others before herself. Yet at the same time… she is so vulnerable and easily led by advertising. She wants EVERYTHING she sees on the Tv ads, even when she doesn’t know what it is! Just the other day she told me I should buy Cilit Bang, and started quoting advertising slogans, as reasoning!
There are however, three things Bunny has been talking about for a while. She doesn’t want them for Christmas and she doesn’t want us to buy them for her… She wants to save up her pocket money and buy them for herself! As far as pocket money goes, we give her our loose change (coppers, 5p, 10p and 20p coins), at the end of each week. She scrupulously saves up until she has enough for a new toy! So these are the things she is so determinedly saving for…
Rhino (Bunny’s older half brother) is currently trialling the “pktmny” system, in which he is given his pocket money from us (£5 per week) into an online account. He can then buy things using a kids debit card! pktmny aims to teach children about saving, spending and the value of money. So far he has £50 and hasn’t used his card. We are going to put some more on it for Christmas for him. We know there are lots of accessories he wants for his Xbox and assuming Santa (his mum) hasn’t already got them for him, he will probably use his pktmny to buy them!
As for the twins, they don’t have any pocket money yet as they are too little but we will be setting them up a Junior ISA each very soon. Undoubtedly if they did get pocket money… they’d spend it on milk, milk and more milk! (They are greedy little babies!)
I’ve written this blog post as an entry into the #pktmny parents linky hosted by Britmums in the hope of winning £250 cash.
If I won this (we can all dream)… I’d give each child £50.
-Bunny’s in pennies so she can buy her desk and lamp herself.
-Rhino’s into his pktmny account so he can buy more kit for his Xbox
-Fluffy’s and Tiny’s into starting their Junior ISA’s
The other £50 I would use to treat us all to a nice family day out somewhere!
I very rarely win anything so I shan’t hold my breath! lol.
How do you give your child their pocket money?
I love this. Bunny is so sweet. Seriously the best post I’ve read all day. How adorable that she wants to donate her penny’s. I hope Dexter grows up to think in the same selfless way xxx
