The blogging world has fallen shocked and distraught, as a fellow blogger and twin mummy, tragically lost her beautiful baby girl to cot death on 2nd Feb 2013. Jennie writes on her blog Edspire about her grief for Matilda Mae, and hundreds of us spend our evenings sobbing through her posts and tweets.
It’s strange, this community. You write a blog without knowing you are becoming part of this incredible support network of like-minded people. The majority of us have never met Jennie or Matilda Mae in real life, but when you read someones blog and tweet them often, you feel like you know them. Many bloggers pour their hearts and souls into their blogs and Jennie is one of those people. She is also so admirably strong and despite feeling the worst kind of loss a human can bear, she is getting her husband and her twins through it with passion and grace.
As I lay awake thinking of them last night, words began flying through my mind. You may know that my relationship with religion is a complicated and uncertain one, but Jennie’s faith is strong and it is guiding her. I have composed the below poem for Jennie and her Family, because, it just felt right.
Jennie also wanted to read all the #MatildaMae tribute posts, so I thought I should form a place where she can find them all. So I ask all bloggers with a post/song/video/photo/craft in memory of Matilda Mae, to link them up below for Jennie.
I would also like to mention that on behalf of Jennie, a lovely lady called Kylie is helping to raise money for the premature baby charity Bliss via the Matilda Mae Precious Star Fund. Anyone wishing to donate can do so by following this link.
TWINKLE TWINKLE MATILDA MAE for Jennie, David, Esther and William.
Twinkle twinkle Matilda Mae
Did you have fun in heaven today?
You shine so brightly over the sea,
the prettiest star in the sky to see.
Watching your family all day long,
smiling at them through natures song
Twinkle twinkle Matilda Mae
Did you have fun in heaven today?
Did you show the angels your magic smile,
clapping excitedly all the while.
Flapping your own beautiful wings,
knowing there’s wonder in all of Gods things.
Twinkle twinkle Matilda Mae
Did you have fun in heaven today?
Crawling all over the cotton wool clouds,
laughing and cooing baby babbling sounds.
Your sweet laughter fills the heavy air
and answers every human prayer.
Twinkle twinkle Matilda Mae
Did you have fun in heaven today?
Blowing kisses to your big bro and sis,
making sure they catch them and never miss.
They may not always see your love,
but feel in their hearts, their sister above.
Twinkle twinkle Matilda Mae
Did you have fun in heaven today?
Sending angel cuddles to daddy and mummy ,
stroking the place you were in her tummy.
Wiping away all sadness and tears,
trying your best to calm their fears.
Twinkle twinkle Matilda Mae
Did you have fun in heaven today?
You are missed so much, here on earth,
a tribute to how very much your life was worth.
You sit hoping that soon we will not cry,
as you wave happily from the sky.
Twinkle twinkle Matilda Mae
Did you have fun in heaven today?
We see you in the stars and bright sunbeams ,
as you show us light, from dark, it seems.
You are in all the colourful rainbows
and the love from here to you, forever shows.
Twinkle twinkle Matilda Mae
Did you have fun in heaven today?
We must trust you are at peace now,
but never forgetting us, no way no how.
Tell us about your happy times, whilst we sleep,
and in our dreams, your memories we’ll keep.

Find myself shouting less, not minding the mess that only a 2 year old can create and lots more hugs before bedtime. Lots more splashing at bath time and even having a weekly bath with my baby boy. This heart retching story has made me want to be the best mummy I can be. Sweet dreams wee angel x x x
